Good morning!
Here in the Beatitudes, Jesus describes the characteristics of those who hunger after His kingdom. Jesus desires we hunger and thirst after righteousness. Meanwhile, Satan does all he can to tempt us to hunger and thirst after anything and everything except righteousness!
Satan has flipped the script on this world regarding what is and isn’t acceptable to seek after. It’s now deemed acceptable to go head over heels in seeking a mate or sacrifice all to climb the ever-elusive corporate ladder of success. Sadly, these days people have become more accepting of seeking unrealistic goals of being the perfect parent, spouse, daughter, mother, husband, employee, or even Christian.
Unfortunately, any of these can become an unbalanced distraction to what should be our true pursuit.
Psalm 25:4-5 Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. 5 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.
We must take care to follow the Biblical script for life. If not, although our intentions may be sincere, we can end up passionately pursuing something or someone without the leading, direction, and guidance of the Holy Spirit. This even includes our attempt to walk with Christ.
Remember having a lot of zeal with little knowledge of Christ will leave us still hungering and thirsting for righteousness because our actions will be misfocused. Being centered more about us than about Him.
Romans 10:2 – For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge.
Let us strive to quench our spiritual hunger and thirst by developing habits that help keep us in His presence. Learning to linger there until we are blessed and satisfied.
Have a fulfilling day in His precious presence!
