LEARNING TO SHAKE IT OFF?

Mar 18, 2023

Acts 28:3-5 (NIV) Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand "they said to each other, "This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live. 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.

Good morning!

The Apostle Paul had just completed 15 drama-filled days at sea as a prisoner. He’d suffered hunger, the threat of drowning, and potential death by the sword to keep him from escaping. But, with God’s divine assistance, Paul, the boat crew, his captors, and all his fellow prisoners made it safely to shore.

To the shock of the local islanders who took the shipwrecked survivors into their care, Paul escaped many hazards only to get bitten by a poisonous snake while putting wood on the fire.

Everyone watching Paul expected him to drop dead from the snake bite. However, Paul had faith in God’s divine protection as he believed that in the same way, God helped him through the many other hazards, He would help him again. Paul then shook the snake off his hand into the fire and carried on with his duties.

At times, we can feel shipwrecked, stranded, and even alone. Failing to possibly notice we are being closely watched by people. People who don’t have our best interest at heart. In fact, they may be awaiting our collapse.

As believers, let us strive to rely on God and expect His supernatural protection and provision to show up for us when needed. Learning to shake off our unpleasant circumstances and carry out our Kingdom duties despite our difficulties.

Colossians 1:29 For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.

May the Lord’s divine power see you successfully through the attacks you might be facing this day!
