Good morning!
Many won’t admit to having a personal war that rages within themselves daily. This war is against a persistent and challenging adversary called the flesh!
Our flesh (Our carnal/material self) can convince us the wrong way is the right way and the right way is the wrong way!
That is why Galatians 5:16-17 warns us to keep our fleshly desires under subjection to God’s calming, authoritative word!
You may have noticed how easy it is to entertain ourselves for hours and hours, doing what amount to much of nothing. However, when it comes time to set aside spiritual study time, we can find ourselves fighting to try and feed our starving spirit scriptures for 15 minutes to a half-hour. That includes our quickie prayer at bedtime.
So, while we may have good intentions to do better in “Getting closer to God,” we can’t ignore the truth that our flesh has a built-in plan to steer us away from deeper spiritual paths. Ones that can prevent us from developing a closeness to God.
Note! I’ve been as guilty of some of these behaviors as anyone. I’ve since had to learn to be better prepared to stay prepared to combat my flesh at all times! Nobody knows us better than we know ourselves. That is why we are our own most formidable foe!
Let us strive to learn how to stand firm and remain diligent against everything that can hinder our spiritual growth. (Ephesians 6:12-13). Helping us have a more balanced spiritual life that refuses to be ruled by our wants and desires.
Praying our day is free from selfish fleshly pursuits!
