The Point of Practice?

Mar 30, 2025

Colossians 3:5-9 (ESV) 5. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you:[a] sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices.

Good morning!

From children to adults, practice is required by everyone at every level and within every walk of life. The principle of practice can be found being implemented in every occupation! It is done by attorneys, dentists, cooks, doctors, choirs and the participants at every level of organized sports.

In verse 5, we are told the key to success in our Christian walk is to put to death our former carnal self. This of course requires ongoing, intensive practice. In verses 6 -9, we see behaviors we are advised to avoid. Some we may find ourselves struggling to overcome more often than we’d like to admit.

Practice will always play a vital part in how we learn to better apply God’s principles and precepts to our daily lives. It’s how we become more effective and efficient in our quest to perform God’s will (Mark 4:19).

Let us strive to make practicing the application of Godly principles and precepts part of our daily lives.

May your day contain a reasonable amount of Biblically based practice!
