Why Watch Our Words?

Dec 19, 2024

James 3:3-6 The tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.

Good morning!

Many a life has been brought to ruin from the negative words (Seeds) that were planted, took root, and grew up in their lives.

Words act like seeds in that repeatedly spoken (planted) negative words. Words such as you are worthless, stupid, lazy, ugly, etc., often bring a life-long impact. In many cases, they are spoken/planted by someone who had that same abuse done to them.

People are shocked to realize after suffering verbal abuse from others they now resemble the person they despised that spoke (planted) curses over/into their life.

That is why we really need to watch what we say.

James 1:26 – If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.

My mom used to always say…“If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all.”

Remember, our words can either bless or curse. So to avoid planting a crop we do not want to reap, let us guard our hearts/minds as our thoughts are where our words originate before coming out the mouth.

If you think you need help changing the kind of words you have been speaking/planting, read through Proverbs daily for a couple of months. It is a wealth of wisdom that will help renew your mind (Romans 12:2) and assist your outlook on daily living.

Praying we have a wonderful watch-our-word day!

Proverbs 12:14 – Wise words bring many benefits.
