Good morning!
Verse 1 speaks of how God disciplines His children. We are not judged as the world will be. Why? Because All our punishment for sin was exhausted upon Jesus on the cross (Romans. 5:9).
We must also remember God does not always remove the natural consequences of our sins even when we repent. Consequences are tools God can use to teach and prevent us from repeating the same mistakes.
Verse 2 says that to break free from the law of sin and death requires a different mindset (Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you). If not, we easily fall victim to old habits of an unrenewed mind that won’t allow us to follow God as closely as we need to. Christ’s death at Calvary allowed us to be pardoned and justified and opened the way to salvation.
Verse 3 shows the law made nothing perfect: It was weak. Meaning the corrupt nature of man was incapable of keeping it. Also, the law could not justify, sanctify or free us from the guilt and power of sin. Worse, it offered no promise of either pardon or grace. Our deliverance came when the law was superseded by another law. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus! Christ placed us under another covenant, another master, and another husband while qualifying us for eternal life.
If you feel you’re in bondage to reoccurring life issues due to an old condemning mindset, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal and assist you in learning how to be set free. This will enable you to enjoy what Christ has already done for you… and me!
