Good morning!
Baton Rouge and other cities have witnessed increased violence and tragedies over the past few years. One Police official made the point that unless people’s hearts change, we as a society will not survive.
2 Corinthians 7:10 describes the choice everyone affected by tragedy and the sorrow accompanying it must eventually make.
Sadly, tragedy is one of the few things that can slow us down long enough to force us into thinking about and rethink our mortality.
It is in these powerfully sorrowful moments that we become free of the distractions of life long enough to catch a glimpse of spiritual aspects and see them more clearly. Hopefully, seeing a need to pray and have our hearts draw closer to God’s comforting love.
It is up to us to decide individually whether we will allow Godly sorrow to work within us and let God mend our deepest hurts.
Sadly, the opposite of Godly sorrow is ungodly sorrow. Ungodly sorrow leads to anger, rage, bitterness and unforgiveness. It also tends to have people develop little to know concern for the thoughts and welfare of others. This type of attitude eventually leads people towards an eternal separation from God.
Remember, even though our pain may be mind numbing now, God understands our pain far more deeply than we ever can or will.
Hebrews 4:15 – For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses…
Lord, we pray your perfect work be done in the minds and hearts of the many people suffering and hurting around this world. Let your Holy Spirit soothe their pains and enable them to walk in love with their fellow man. Amen!
Have a blessed, prayerful and meditative day by the power of His might
