One of my mom’s favorite sayings is “Silence Can’t Be Quoted.” Her translation, learn when to stop talking and keep my mouth closed.

This verse reminds us that whatever comes out of our mouths will be judged both by God and those who hear it. Or even hear of it!

Many of us have seen firsthand the damage even a simple comment can do.

Matthew 15:11 – It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth…”

Whether made as a joke, in anger, or at the wrong time, our words can wreck relationships, and employment, cause dissension and destroy our reputations.

Let us continually pray for God’s assistance so that we can become more careful about what comes out of our mouths.

Psalm 141:3 – Post a guard at my mouth, God, set a watch at the door of my lips!”
