Good morning!

Growing up, my mom always cautioned my brother and me to never do things halfway. She said when we fail to complete a task, it reflects poorly on us. This rule applied to everything from our homework to house chores and more.

People tend to mostly reject incomplete things. No one likes their car half washed, food half-cooked, a yard half-cut or dishes that are half-washed.

Surprisingly, people tend to abandon this same principle when it deals with learning the entire truth about a matter.

It is easy to listen intently while someone describes how bad someone has treated them. When they finish their side of the story, we may feel bad for them and even be angry and upset with the other person.

Proverbs 18:17 warns not to rush to judgment on a matter, until we hear the whole story! We are told we can’t correctly judge a dispute by only listening to only one half or side of the events.

Even our judicial system tries to consider someone innocent until proven guilty. No correct judgments can be arrived at until the testimony of both sides and even others with valid input have been heard.

2 Corinthians 13:1 – In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

Jumping to a conclusion based on only half of the information can have us aligning us with the side that is in error.

Finally, we are told it is foolish and shameful behavior when we proceed without knowing the (True) whole story.

Proverbs 18:13 – One who gives an answer before he hears, It is foolishness and shame to him.

Let us strive to be even-handed in all matters by considering both sides of the story in conflicts. After all, isn’t that what we want others to do for us?
