Putting Fear In It’s Proper Place!

Nov 5, 2026

Exodus 20:20 (NKJV) 20 And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”

Good morning!

I Googled the most common fears Americans have. The list included everything from heights, snakes, flying, public speaking, the dark, retirement savings, and even the dentist.

When the Bible says we are to “Fear God,” it is telling us is we need to reverence God alone and not fear anyone or anything else.

As each generation passes away, society seems to slowly lose its fear of God while still managing to maintain a fear of death, disease, accidents, sickness, etc.

Matthew 10:28 warns “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (That would be God and God alone!)

In other words, don’t neglect to put God in His proper place of respect in our lives. That being recognizing Him as the only one who stands between us and eternal damnation. Something that should easily overshadow anything our world can present to us.

Let us always strive to work on our relationship with God and learn to reverence Him correctly. When we do, we will learn to operate in faith through Him and not be fearful of what this world’s troubles may do to us.

Proverbs 1:7 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools (In Hebrew, fools often means a person who is morally deficient) despise wisdom and instruction.

Lord help us strive to fear you and only you in the same Godly manner your word describes!

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
