STAYING COMPOSED DURING LIFE’S INTENSE MOMENTS?

Jun 17, 2026

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NASB) 9 And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

Good morning!

Sometime in the late 80’s, I drove my wife to New Orleans to visit her Great Aunt. My wife forgot something in our car and sent me to get it. Somehow (First and last time ever) after locking the door, I pushed it closed with my hand still gripping the top metal frame surrounding the glass. I quickly discovered all my right-hand fingers were clamped tight to the car.

My fingers felt as if they were on fire. I was stuck in an awkward and painful angle with my car keys in my right pocket. Despite the pain and awkwardness of the situation, I kept my poise and composure realizing any shouts for help towards the house would not be heard.

I slowly maneuvered my left hand down (I am right-handed) into my right pocket while taking care not to drop the keys. I then managed to unlock the door.

My fingers were free but felt like they were still in the door. There was a flat crease running across all four of them and no circulation. I thought about medical attention, but my ego said, “Just shake it off and go inside.”

Although this entire event only lasted about a minute or two, it was intense and painful.

Life will always give us brief intense and painful moments. Sometimes, painful years and at times with no one but God around to hear our cry for help.

Let us never forget that while these intense moments may leave us a bit scraped and creased, if we remain calm and operate in His peace and power, we can eventually shake it off and get back to doing His will!

Isaiah 26:3 – You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

Have a perfectly poised day in the Lord!
