Good morning!
The object of this psalm is to excite the people to gratitude by remembering the goodness of God to the people in former times. This psalm recounts the mercies of God and His acts of intervention in their history.
As Believers, we should be careful to try to not focus so intently on our current problems that we forget all of the problems that God has delivered us from in the past.
Our memories of deliverance should be used to stir us up in the faith and excite us to stay encouraged about God’s constant delivering power.
Spurgeon reminds us that there is a constant danger among God’s people to forget God’s marvelous works. He reminds us that it dishonors God when we forget His great works. And how the act of forgetting allows us to drift into a pattern of forgetfulness when we fail to not actively remember.
He goes on to point out we should not be better at remembering foolish and evil memories over the glorious deeds of God. Spurgeon finishes by saying “If we would keep these in remembrance our faith would be stronger, our gratitude warmer, our devotion more fervent, and our love more intense.”
Let us strive to not deprive our lives of the joy, strength, and courage that is ours to possess when we continually remember everything God has done for us.
May our day be filled with the recollection of God’s goodness, mercy, and grace in our lives!
Lamentations 3:22-23 The LORD’S loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
