Good morning!

BibleRef summarizes for us what is being said here. In the previous verses of 1 Peter 1:3 and 4, Peter revealed that God has caused us to be born again to a living hope and a forever inheritance of limitless worth. Peter writes that the merciful God who gives us those great gifts is also actively guarding us right up to this moment.

But when he makes reference to protecting, what is it we are being protected against? Suffering? Nope! Because, as Peter will soon say, we can expect that at times we will suffer (1 Peter 4:12-19).

What God is protecting is our inheritance. He is guarding us against anything that might cause our inheritance (Our eternal life with Him forever) to be lost. The Greek term used in this verse for guarding/protecting is phrouroumenous. It is a military term that is also translated as “shielded,” “kept,” or “protected.”

It is impressive that God thinks enough of us to allow us to be guarded by His power. Think about it! He is the God of all. He is able. Yet, we are able to guarded by God’s power through faith.

Remember, it’s not our faith that provides the power but God who is the power! Through our continued faith of believing in and on Him, we can trust that He will keep and guard us By the grace of God and by faith, we have been saved from the eternal penalty of our sin. We are being saved from the power of sin, so we can be in position to grow more and more into the image of Christ!

Ephesians 2:8–9 – 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
