WHY DO WE NEED GODLY DISCERNMENT?

Sep 5, 2026

Psalm 119:66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge; For I have believed in thy commandments.

Good morning!

Sinclair Ferguson’s brief description of true discernment states that it not only means distinguishing the right from the wrong; it means distinguishing the primary from the secondary, the essential from the indifferent, and the permanent from the transient. And, yes, it means distinguishing between the good and the better, and even between the better and the best.

Godly discernment is something every Christian needs and should work on . It has been said that “Discernment is learning to think God‘s thoughts after Him, practically and spiritually; it means having a sense of how things look in God‘s eyes and seeing them in some measure “uncovered and laid bare”

Discernment is critical to the success of many areas of our lives as we pursue our path through life.

God desires we become and stay close enough to Him so He can direct away from pursuing paths that look good but are actually filled with deception powered by layer upon layer of demonic lies.

Proverbs 14:12 – There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

We must stay aware that pursuing success by going down the wrong path can lead people to lose their soul.

Mark 8:36-37 – What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

Let us strive to walk in the discernment of God so that the paths we travel lead to righteousness (Eternal life) and not To unrighteousness (Eternal death).

Psalm 119:125 – Give discernment to me, your servant; then I will understand your laws.
